Second Charité Biomedical Entrepreneurship Summit - Berlin, March 23-24, 2009

Summary

Since its successful launch in 2007, the Charité Biomedical Entrepreneurship Summit has become an international forum of almost 230 registered participants coming from various professional backgrounds in life sciences and in entrepreneurship. This year’s Summit took place at the historic Robert-Koch-Lecture Hall in the centre of Berlin on March 23 and 24, 2009. The event was organised to inform, motivate, and qualify academics and entrepreneurship experts to further promote biomedical enterprises.

New relationships were built across Germany, Europe, and the U.S.; and ideas for new conferences and businesses were created in discussions among speakers and participants, some of which are already resulting in new collaborations.

We are very pleased about the high acceptance and appreciation of our Entrepreneurship Competition, which was held for the very first time this year. We received more than 25 business ideas from national and international teams, which demonstrates how important it is to provide further entrepreneurial input for academics in the life sciences.

The following comments from participants and speakers reflect the strong demand cross-sector networking opportunities among experts from the life sciences and their entrepreneurial counterparts:

“The summit was an eye-opener for me and greatly enhanced my vision and exposure to entrepreneurship. I met various people from private and academia, and their guidance will surely help me to plan and shape my career.” Chandra Prakash Prasad, VMMC Hospital. New Delhi, India, participant 2009.

„Ich war sehr beeindruckt von der hohen Qualität der Vorträge und der ausgesprochen hochkarätigen Besetzung bei den Referenten und bin froh, mir für beide Tage Zeit genommen zu haben. Die Veranstaltung hat sicher sehr dazu beigetragen, ein fruchtbares und aktives Gründungsumfeld in Berlin weiter voranzubringen.“ Christian Kapteyn, Germany, participant, 2009.
