“On December 17, 2017, the full-day symposium ‘THE UNCONSCIOUS HUMAN - between psychoanalysis and neurobiological evidence’ with the participation of Nobel Prize Laureate Eric Kandel, Gerhard Roth, Andreas Heinz and Werner Bohleber as well as the virtuoso ensemble unitedberlin took place at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Presenting and discussing this with the inclusion of music, psychoanalysis, psychiatry and neuroscience is the aim of this symposium, which attracted over 500 interested people. The aim of the event was to invite scientists and clinicians who approach the topic from different directions of their respective professions, to hear, discuss and bring their findings and experiences together in a fruitful dialogue. At the same time, it was important for the organizers not only to open up the topic via the rational path, but also to make the largely irrational, directly and individually experienceable experience in art and music tangible. Between the lectures, musical pieces were played as musical associations, interpreted by the virtuoso Berlin ensemble united berlin. The lectures of the event were summarized in a conference proceedings, which will be published by the Psychosozial-Verlag Gießen in the spring of 2019.”
