"With the help of the Stiftung Charité funding the research groups of Prof. Dr. Marcel Müller (Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin) and Dr. Nils Gassen (University Hospital Bonn) significantly strengthened and expanded their interdisciplinary collaboration in the field of stress, viral infections, and inflammation. The joint research focuses on the role of stress in cellular processes such as autophagy and its impact on coronavirus infections. The support from Stiftung Charité enabled comprehensive experimental studies, which now serve as the foundation for future collaborative project proposals. As a result of this collaboration, four project proposals have already been submitted, with additional proposals in preparation. The overarching goal of this collaboration is to establish a DFG Research Unit (FOR) to build a robust scientific framework for innovative approaches in stress and infection research. Stiftung Charité has played a pivotal role in advancing this forward-looking area of research."
