Julia Sophie Onken
“The team led by PD Dr. Julia Onken has successfully established a novel technology for the treatment of therapy-resistant epilepsy at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. The approach involves a cutting-edge neurostimulator, which is implanted beneath the scalp in a minimally invasive procedure. This technique, known as epicranial brain stimulation (EASEE® system), allows for precise, individually tailored modulation of epileptic activity directly above the affected brain region – without penetrating the brain tissue. For patients who do not respond adequately to conventional medication or surgery, this method offers a promising new therapeutic option with reduced procedural risk. With the implementation of this technology, Charité expands its surgical repertoire in the field of epilepsy surgery, reinforcing its position as a leading center for innovative and personalized treatment strategies in neurosurgery.”
