"The central focus of the Johanna Quandt project "Immune Mechanisms in Translation" was the discovery of new applications of antibodies and B cells for the treatment and prevention of human diseases. Within this framework, new methods for studying antibodies were developed, autoantibody reactivities in COVID-19 were characterized, mechanisms of immunosuppression through viral receptors were investigated, structure-based approaches for vaccines and personalized, cell-based vaccines were advanced, and a method for assessing genomic scarring as a biomarker for DNA repair defects was established."
