Raising awareness, sharing knowledge, easing fears: the 2026 science x media tandems

Now in its fourth year, Stiftung Charité continues its commitment to innovation and quality in science communication. At its spring meeting, the Board of Trustees approved funding for three new “science x media tandems 2026.”

Shuyan Liu, Junior Professor of Global Mental Health at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and journalist Sofia Christensen plan to communicate research findings on loneliness among African adolescents – with those young people actively involved in the process. Dr. Marco Zierhut, also from the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, and Gerhard Maier of Seriencamp GmbH are tackling the often stereotyped and exaggerated portrayal of psychotic disorders in film and television. Professor Thoralf Niendorf of the Experimental and Clinical Research Center demystifies MRI through a creative and artistic approach, together with Johanna Barnbeck of Spread the Nerd GmbH – helping to ease, among other things, patient anxiety about the procedure.
