“Prevention Over Cure” – Stiftung Charité’s Contribution to the 17th Berliner Stiftungswoche

On Thursday, 16 April 2026, we are hosting a public event as part of the 17th Berliner Stiftungswoche and cordially invite you to join us at the Berlin Medical History Museum of the Charité!

Under the heading “Prevention Over Cure: Perspectives on Modern Preventive Medicine,” Professor Ralf Dechend (Experimental and Clinical Research Center and HELIOS Klinikum Berlin-Buch), Professor Andreas Diefenbach (Director of the Institute of Microbiology and Infection Immunology, Charité, and co-spokesperson of the Excellence Cluster ImmunoPreCept), Dr. Martina Kloepfer (chair of Im Puls. Think Tank Herz-Kreislauf e.V.) and Professor Friedrich Köhler (head of Cardiovascular Telemedicine, Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité) will take to the stage. The discussion will be moderated by Christiane Löll, a licensed physician and renowned science journalist.

For non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular conditions, and chronic inflammation, the greatest potential lies in prevention – yet translating health knowledge into health action remains difficult. How should the healthcare system and university medicine be structured to not only treat disease, but to prevent it strategically, for everyone? What role could digital tools like smartwatches play? And what is biomedical research working on – in Berlin and globally – to enable medicine to intervene earlier, before the line between health and illness is crossed?

Following the moderated discussion, we invite attendees to an open exchange with our panelists.

When: Thursday, 16 April 2026, 5-6:30 PM (Doors from 4:30 PM)

Where: Lecture Hall Ruin, Berlin Medical History Museum of the Charité, Campus Mitte, Virchowweg 16, 10117 Berlin

Admission is free. Please not that the discussion will be in German.
