Proven Leaders in Their Fields: 16 Stiftung Charité Grantees Among the Highly Cited Researchers 2025

Sixteen scientists funded by Stiftung Charité have been named among the “Highly Cited Researchers 2025,” representing the top one percent of the world’s most cited researchers as identified by Clarivate in their annual analysis – an impressive testament to the excellence of our grantees’ research.

The list, published annually by Clarivate, recognizes researchers whose publications have been cited most frequently worldwide over an eleven-year period. Scientists whose work ranks in the top one percent of the most cited publications in their respective fields are included. The evaluation is based on the Web of Science Core Collection.

The distinguished researchers from Berlin’s life sciences community featured on this year’s list are:

Prof. Gerd-Rüdiger Burmester (Cross-Field category), Prof. Christoph U. Correll (Psychiatry and Psychology), Prof. Christian Drosten (Microbiology), Prof. Christian Gaebler (Cross-Field), Prof. Ulf Landmesser (Clinical Medicine), Prof. Marcel A. Müller (Cross-Field), Prof. Markus Ralser (Biology and Biochemistry), and Prof. Frank Tacke (Cross-Field), all from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin;

Prof. Friedemann Paul (Neuroscience and Behavior), who is affiliated with both Charité and the Max Delbrück Center (MDC);

Prof. Nikolaus Rajewsky (Molecular Biology and Genetics) from MDC.

Additionally, among our international grantees, the following appear on this year’s list:

Prof. John Deanfield (Cross-Field, University College London, UK), Prof. John P. A. Ioannidis (Clinical Medicine, Stanford University, USA), Prof. Brian K. Kobilka (Biology and Biochemistry, Stanford University, USA), Prof. David J. Mooney (Biology and Biochemistry, Harvard University, USA), Prof. Vasan Ramachandran (Cross-Field, Boston University, USA), and Prof. Chris Sander (Biology and Biochemistry, Harvard University, USA).

This brings Stiftung Charité’s total to two more grantees among the “Highly Cited Researchers 2025” compared to 2024. The complete list is available on Clarivate’s website, along with details about the methodology and robustness of the data analysis underlying the compilation.
