"On September 24, 2024, the second Palliative Care Colloquium took place in the historic Hörsaalruine under the title “Life is Colorful – The Challenge of Palliative Care in the Intensive Care Unit.” The event was developed and organized by a multiprofessional team – a clear sign of how valuable and necessary interdisciplinary collaboration is in providing holistic care for patients in complex clinical situations.

A central aim of the colloquium was to more firmly anchor palliative care within intensive care medicine. Palliative care does not begin at the end of life – it starts much earlier, with the goal of preserving quality of life, alleviating suffering, and offering individual support to patients and their loved ones.

The diverse program offered:

  • Palliative care approaches in intensive care
  • Aromatherapy in clinical care
  • End-of-life care in different cultural contexts
  • Supporting people in the final phase of life

The colloquium was an important step toward sustainably improving the integration of palliative values and practices in intensive care.

The event also provided space for reflection, exchange, and networking among participants."
