"ScreenlT, led collaboratively by Dr. Tracey Weissgerber (formerly at the BIH QUEST Center) and Dr. Anita Bandrowski (FAIR Data Informatics Laboratory, University of California at San Diego), aims to provide rapid feedback that may help authors to improve the transparency and reproducibility of their papers. This unfunded collaboration has attracted over 30 software tool developers and meta researchers, who aim to use automated screening tools to improve the transparency and reproducibility of manuscripts before publication. ScreenlT tools screen papers for many factors, including details needed to assess the risk of bias (blinding, randomization, power calculations), reporting of participant sex, open data, and author-acknowledged limitations. During Dr. Bandrowski's visiting fellowship, Dr. Bandrowski worked with investigators from the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) to create a "Screen My Paper" website, which will soon undergo testing, that will allow researchers from BIH and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin to upload papers, and obtain feedback on opportunities to make their paper more transparent and reproducible. Some of the factors detected by the tool were also added to the BIH dashboard on responsible research practices. Finally, Dr. Bandrowski and Dr. Weissgerber secured additional funding to strengthen long-term collaborations, build new tools to screen different types of papers, determine whether reports from automated tools help authors to improve reporting, and organize two summer schools to train early career researchers in metaresearch."
